I wanted to start by giving a huge Thank You to everyone who stopped by our table and either picked up a button, flier, or bought a book. The 2010 Balitmore Comic Con was a fun time. It amazes me the amount of people in this area that are willing to wait in a line that stretches around the block to get into the show. I had a lot of fun hanging out with Sean and Ben, doing sketches and talking about comics.

We were also fortunate enough to be booth neighbors with Antonio Clark who is an incredibly talented and enthusiastic comic artist. He gave me some great ideas for fun sketches to give out to people and was kind enough to do a sweet watercolor drawing of Raphael for my son. He also drew a sweet sketch card of Gnorm for me. Thanks Tony!

As I said, I drew a ton of sketches for people and tried to take pics of most of them. Here’s a bunch of them, as well as some pics of our booth setup.

So the site redesign went off without a hitch last night. I hope everyone likes it. I took a lot of time with this one trying to figure out what was really useful and what was just clutter in the last design. One of the new features I’ve added is an email subscription for those of you who aren’t into RSS.

Another major change is that I got rid of the ads. I’m not saying I’ll never put ads back on the site, but for now I don’t think they’re necessary. I do have an area in the sidebar where I’ll be making recommendations for sites that are either a really good cause that I want to support or a site that I think you would like or benefit from. First up in the recommendations is St. Jude Children’s Hospital. I’ve been blessed with the greatest little 4 year old on the planet (sorry if you thought your kid was better… you’re wrong) and I can’t imagine going through some of the fights that families of sick kids go through. Anything that can be done to prevent that is well worth it, so I hope you’ll consider supporting St. Jude’s.

Also, don’t forget that next week begins the three-strips-a-week run here. Wish me luck!

-Brad

Hard to believe the Baltimore Comic Con is only a couple weeks away. Amazingly enough, things are all coming together nicely and with that comes another announcement. Starting the week of August 30th, As the Grass Grows will be making the leap to three updates a week. Going back to one strip a week for a while was a tough, but necessary, decision. As I mentioned before, though, other commitments have been wrapped up (for the most part) and despite some other changes going on in my life, I feel pretty confident that I can maintain a regular thrice weekly schedule.

Since the new schedule is such a big deal, it seemed only right to update the site design, too. Actually, that’s not true. I’ve been working on the new site design for a while. It was just luck that it all came together at the same time.

I know, it’s crazy, new book, new schedule, new site design, there are a lot of changes going on around here. All good, though. Thanks again for reading.

Hi folks,
Well, as I’ve mentioned in the past, I’ve been working on putting together a book collection for As the Grass Grows, and I’m excited to finally say that it’s done.

The book is titled Gnonsense and it will make it’s debut at the Baltimore Comic Con at the end of August. It is 112 pages and contains the first year and a half of strips as well as two short stories that aren’t available online. The first is the original Gnorm the Gnome short story that I created in 2003 (wow, can’t believe Gnorm is 7 years old) and the second is a story that appeared in the anthology “War” published by Saddle Tramp Press in 2005. After the Baltimore con, it’ll be available online for $14.95 but if you can make it to Baltimore I’ll have it at a discounted “debut” price – plus I’ll do a free sketch for you.

I’ll give more details as to where you can find me at the con as soon as I get them, but I recently did a practice run to set up my table in my garage (special thanks to my wife for making it not lame):

Yes that’s a bobble head gnome that will be sitting on my table.

So I just wanted to give you all an update as to where things stand in As-the-grass-grows-ville (gotta be a better name I could come up with there) and it’s good news! Life’s craziness has slowed down a bit. I have the book off to the printer and the other things that were taking large amounts of my time are now to the point of just waiting to see what happens. All my preparations for the Baltimore Comicon are under control (did I mention I’ll be attending the Baltimore Comicon? With my friends Sean and Ben? I did? OK, cool).

So now my attention is back to making comics. I’m going to spend the next few weeks building a buffer and continuing to post new comics only once a week before getting into my regular update schedule of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for the foreseeable future. I’m also continuing the process of the site redesign so that’ll be coming soon as well.

Thanks to everyone for sticking around during the last couple months. I’ll be posting more info about the book soon.

Hello fellow gnome enthusiasts.

Due to some unforeseen but pretty cool developments in my life, I have to make a temporary modification to my update schedule here at As the Grass Grows (followed by a permanent one). For the next couple months or so, new comics will be posted only on Mondays.

Here’s the good news, though. When the undetermined time frame is up, I’m going to make the big jump to three comics a week.

I really appreciate all of the comments and support that I’ve received over the past year and a half and hope you stick around for the fun.

Thanks,

So I started to put together the first book collection of As the Grass Grows. It’s gonna collect the first hundred and forty-some strips as well as some other stories of Gnorm that appeared in different books before it became a regular strip. Stay tuned for more info to come. The book will make it’s debut at the Baltimore Comicon in August.

Oh, second bit of news… I’ll be at the Baltimore Comicon in August. It’s not technically official yet, but they cashed my check, so I think that gives me the right to announce I’ll be there. I’ll be hanging out with my buddy Sean from My Robot Friends. He’s gonna have some cool stuff at the table too so check his site in the coming months for more details. And bring lots of money to buy our stuff We’ll also be giving away free sketches, so if you’re poor you can still come say hi and get a free sketch.

So I’ve finally joined 2010. I recently caught up with all of you smart people who read the internets through your RSS feeds.

This has made me realize that I’ve neglected any of you who read this strip in the RSS feed. This has been rectified. You can now get the full sized strip through the feed. All I ask is that you subscribe to the new link above or by clicking this link.

I’ve also been taking a long hard look at the site and have begun the process of the much needed redesign, so that will be coming soon.

Hooray, technology!
